Macquarie has disclosed a $99m senior debt facility for George Youroukos-led Technomar covering the refinancing of seven containerships.
The Australian financial group said the funding was provided to shipowning entities within the Athens-based Technomar Group, although it did not identify the seven vessels, disclose pricing or give the maturity of the facility.
The transaction forms part of a growing Greek shipping book at Macquarie, which has deployed more than $2bn in the market since completing its first deal with Atlas Maritime in 2017. Its current Greek shipping portfolio exceeds $1bn across more than 75 transactions.
Macquarie has completed more than 25 transactions with Atlas alone and has also been building relationships with newer Greek names. The financier revealed that it backed Adele Shipmanagementâs first bulker acquisitions and now finances four ships for the company.
Technomar, established by Youroukos in 1994, remains heavily weighted towards containerships while also managing dry bulk tonnage. Current vessel-registry data links the company to a fleet approaching 100 managed ships.
The owner has a long track record of buying secondhand boxships. Splash previously tracked Technomar picking up tonnage from German owners during an earlier phase of container fleet expansion, including a pair of 7,849 teu post-panamaxes acquired from Zeaborn.
