Ocean Network Express is consolidating its Asian regional management in Singapore, folding its Hong Kong-based East Asia headquarters into a new Asia Pacific operation from April 1, 2027.

The Japanese containerline said the new Asia Pacific regional headquarters will combine its current East Asia operation in Hong Kong with the South Asia headquarters already based in Singapore. The enlarged unit will oversee 15 markets, with Louis Tang appointed regional head.

ONE is also redrawing responsibility for Africa. Its East, West and South African businesses will move under the carrier’s Dubai regional headquarters, while London will retain responsibility for Europe, the Mediterranean and North Africa.

The restructuring alters a regional setup that dates back to ONE’s creation. When NYK, MOL and K Line unveiled their merged container operation in 2017, Singapore was selected as global headquarters, with regional headquarters initially established in Hong Kong, London, Richmond and São Paulo.

The reshuffle comes three months into the tenure of Till Ole Barrelet, who formally succeeded founding chief executive Jeremy Nixon on July 1. ONE currently operates more than 280 ships with capacity exceeding 2.2m teu.

Barrelet joined ONE promising what he described as the carrier’s next chapter, with the latest regional consolidation among the first significant organisational changes since he took the top job.
