Greek owner Centrofin Management has been linked to its first containership newbuildings, with brokers placing the Dimitris Procopiou-led company behind a pair of 6,000 teu vessels at China’s Hengli Heavy Industries.
The ships are scheduled for delivery in 2028, with no price disclosed. The deal appears to date back to Posidonia in June, when Hengli said an unnamed Greek owner had added to its 6,000 teu series. Clarksons’ June newbuilding data subsequently listed an unidentified Greek owner behind exactly two 6,000 teu ships at Hengli for delivery in 2028.
If confirmed, the order would take Centrofin into a new shipping segment. The company’s own website continues to describe the business as active in the tanker and dry bulk markets, with its published fleet list carrying no containership tonnage.
Centrofin already has a sizeable newbuilding relationship with Hengli. The Greek owner has ordered eight 82,000 dwt Kamsarmaxes at the Dalian yard since 2024, with three of the ships named in June.
The company has also been adding tanker tonnage. Four 156,850 dwt suezmaxes are listed at Samsung Heavy Industries for delivery in 2028, while Centrofin was linked earlier this month to six 114,000 dwt LR2 newbuildings at Chinese newcomer Titan Wind Energy.
Centrofin would become the latest Greek owner to add boxships at Hengli. Splash reported last month that Andreas Martinos-led Minerva Dry had booked four 6,000 teu vessels at the yard, also for delivery in 2028.
